1964 6-inch Cardinals paper overlay
The 1965 National League pennant was decided on the final weekend of the season. The St. Louis Cardinals finished first, with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds tied for second place, one game behind. Some vendor was so confident that either the Phillies or Reds would be the 1964 National League champion that a six-inch pin was designed celebrating the occasion. When the Cardinals emerged as the National League champions, the vendor was stuck with a batch of unsellable pins. At the conclusion of the World Series, a paper overlay was made to cover the original pin, now declaring the St. Louis Cardinals to be World Champions.
